Biodegradable Resins

Environ™ is a fully biodegradable polyester that conforms to ASTM D 6400 and EN 13432 norms.

Environ™ is a biodegradable plastic (bags, films and tableware) that can naturally decompose with the aid of microbial organisms
(aerobic biodegradation) and will not persist in the environment beyond a certain time period (within 3 months).

The Environ™ polymer technology consists of a special catalyst and an optimized process for condensation reaction.

The main unit of the polymer can be represented as below.

-[-O-(CH2)a-COO-(CH2)b-CO-]n

where, a = 4, b = 2 or 4

Environ™ polymers are stable in the atmosphere, but biological decomposition commences when
exposed to bacteria or fungi, and moisture.

Aerobic Biodegradation: Living microorganisms transform the polymer into biomass, carbon dioxide and water.

Environ™ polymers are completely decomposed in normal composting conditions without any harmful by-products,
and are harmless to the environment at every stage of the decomposition process.

Environ™ biodegrades to greater than 95% within 3 months, so is not only 100% biodegradable but compostable too.
