Pulp
for rendering paperboards are from - Bamboo from Government owned
forests and hardwood from farm forestry plantations. The
prevailing situation in India still does not permit captive industrial
plantations for pulpwood – due to statutory ceilings on agricultural
land holdings.
Thus
forest land providing raw resources are not
deforested by captive engagement. Sources of pulp are the outcomes of
'The Farm Forestry Program' that not only conserve forests but also
engage
and provides a
In addition, the Farm Forestry Program encourages intercropping of
leguminious plants on account of the leaf litter from the plantations,
which makes the farmlands more productive.
The
Farm Forestry Program involves research and disbursement
of seedlings to farmers, there has also hydrid species
developed
for saline soils allowing for increased forest cover from multi species
plantations. The Forestry
Program also aims to achieve aspects of water conservation and soil
enrichment. These efforts have made the paper manufacturing a
carbon positive process. In addition, this has helped to
increase the green cover in the country and in the
reduction of GHG (green house gases) as well as conservation of natural
forest resources.
The pulp used to make the paper
board comes from
trees that are harvested sustainably and is Elemental
chlorine-free (ECF).
The paperboard as well as the Environ™
coating conforms to US FDA norms 176.170 for food packaging applications.
