IV. Coir Yarn
Coir fibers
are extracted from the husks surrounding the coconut. Retted coir
fibers are extracted from green natural coconut husks after retting in
flowing, circulating or changed water for a period of minimum three
months. Yarn quality depends on the type of coir fiber which in turn
depends on the stage to which the fibers have been cleaned and retted,
the texture of the fibers and maturity at which the fibers were
de-husked.
Earlier hand
spinning was used to draw the fibers to yarn however today to yield
volumes spinning has moved onto machines. The automatic spinning
machine facilitates spinning of any varieties of yarn according to the
requirement of the industry by varying the parameters of the machine to
vary the twist & runnage. The yarns thus formed are wound in
the form of balls for the easy transportation.
